MV Agusta Declares Independence

Good news for those who love Italian motorcycles.  On January 31, 2025, MV Agusta announced that Art of Mobility S.A., a company controlled by the Sardarov family, will regain full ownership of the MV Agusta Group, officially severing ties with KTM. The move ensures the Italian motorcycle manufacturer remains independent and unaffected by the financial restructuring currently underway at PIERER Mobility AG, KTM’s parent company.

A Brief Partnership

MV Agusta and KTM first joined forces in November 2022, when KTM AG, a subsidiary of PIERER Mobility AG, acquired a 25.1% stake in MV Agusta. The partnership aimed to provide financial stability for the struggling Italian brand while leveraging KTM’s distribution network and supply chain expertise. One of the key aspects of the deal was KTM taking over MV Agusta’s North American distribution, helping the company expand its market reach.

While the collaboration initially brought benefits—including streamlined production and improved parts availability—it came at a time when KTM’s parent company was expanding aggressively. By early 2024, PIERER Mobility AG found itself in financial trouble, leading to a corporate restructuring that could have affected MV Agusta’s operations. To prevent any potential fallout, the Sardarov family decided to regain full control of the company, ensuring MV Agusta remains unaffected by KTM’s ongoing financial challenges.

Record Sales in 2024

The decision to separate comes after an exceptional year for MV Agusta. The company sold 4,000 motorcycles in 2024, marking a 116% growth over the previous year. Sales figures for 2023 had already been matched by July, underscoring the brand’s strong momentum. Additionally, parts sales hit an all-time high, with a 99% availability rate for models produced up to seven years ago.

By regaining full control, MV Agusta aims to protect its network of suppliers and dealers from any potential disruptions caused by KTM’s restructuring. The company’s 219 active sales points and 41 service centers will continue operations as usual, with plans to expand to 270 locations by the end of the year. MV Agusta’s international reach also remains strong, with 20 non-European importers actively distributing its motorcycles.

Committed to Sport Touring

While MV Agusta is best known for its high-performance sport and race motorcycles, the brand also recognizes the appeal of long-distance riding. The Turismo Veloce, MV Agusta’s dedicated sport touring model, blends the company’s signature performance with practical touring features. Powered by a 798cc three-cylinder engine producing 110 horsepower, the Turismo Veloce offers sportbike-like acceleration with the comfort and technology needed for long-distance travel.

Key touring features include cruise control, heated grips, an adjustable windshield, integrated hard bags, and Bluetooth connectivity for navigation and ride customization via the MV Ride app. The Smart Clutch System (SCS) allows riders to operate the clutch manually or let the system handle it, making stop-and-go riding more effortless—an attractive feature for those balancing spirited riding with long-haul touring.

The Turismo Veloce is available in two trims: the Lusso SCS and the RC SCS, the latter being a limited-edition, race-inspired variant. Both models prioritize a balance of comfort, control, and performance, making them a compelling choice for sport touring enthusiasts who appreciate Italian craftsmanship.

A Future of Innovation

CEO Timur Sardarov emphasized that the separation from KTM positions MV Agusta for long-term success:

“Regaining full control of the company means we are now stronger and more focused than ever on delivering excellence. Over the past two years, the company has significantly strengthened its processes, systems, and workforce. These structural changes are the foundation of the extraordinary results achieved in 2024 and will continue to drive our success in the years to come.”

Looking ahead, MV Agusta remains committed to its “Motorcycle Art” philosophy, with product development, production, sales, and after-sales operations continuing from its Varese headquarters. The company is advancing plans for its next-generation models, ensuring that innovation and exclusivity remain at the core of its brand identity.

With its financial stability reinforced and operational independence secured, MV Agusta is poised to build on its success, maintaining its reputation as one of the most prestigious names in motorcycle manufacturing—one that still has something to offer sport touring riders who crave both performance and adventure.
