In just a few short years, Suzuki has solidified its reputation in the motorcycle sport touring category. With the introduction of the GSX-S1000GT+ in 2022, Suzuki offered a motorcycle that successfully bridged the gap between sportbike excitement and touring practicality. Now in its fourth year of production, the 2025 GSX-S1000GT+ continues to refine its formula, providing an exceptional mix of performance, comfort, and style. For those who define sport touring as seeking out the best motorcycle roads and riding them with wild abandon, the GSX-S1000GT+ is a top contender.  Here’s a look at the new 2025 model.

2025 Model Year Highlights

The GT+ has been a solid choice for sport touring since it was launched in 2022.  Suzuki has made only minor changes each year since.  Model year 2025 features an interesting improvement in the bi-directional quick shift system that riders may find handy on long rides.  Otherwise, noteworthy changes are limited to color options.

Smart Cruise Control – This new-for-2025 feature allows the cruise control to continue operating when the rider engages the bi-directional quick shift system’s clutch-free shifting, precluding the need to reset the cruise control after shifting.

New Color Options – Customers can choose between Pearl Vigor Blue or Metallic Oort Gray No. 3.  The Glass Sparkle Black option is no longer available.  Bikes ordered in blue come with color matched wheels and side case garnish panels.  Gray bikes have complementary gold wheels, outer fork tubes, and the exposed portions of the trellis-style sub-frame.

MSRP – $14,299, a $100 increase over the 2024 GT+.

Availability – Customers can contact dealers to place orders now. Models are scheduled to arrive in dealer showrooms in the January/February timeframe.

The Alchemy of Distance and Intensity

In the world of sport touring, finding a motorcycle that offers an optimal mix of long-distance comfort with high-end performance and handling capable of tearing into the most exciting roads is no easy task.  The GSX-S1000GT+ embodies an ideal blend, landing it north of touring and a bit south of sport.  It’s a well thought out mix of sport performance with just enough long distance comfort.

First introduced in 2022 and now entering its fourth model year, Suzuki developed this bike to rival the Kawasaki Ninja 1000SX.  Both models boast a strong sportbike heritage, but the GSX-S1000GT+ sets itself apart with refinements that deliver comfort on long rides without breaking its untamed spirit in the twisties.

This is a sport bike tuned to go long miles in pursuit of the most exciting motorcycle roads no matter how remote they may be.

Touring Options Come Standard

When first introduced, Suzuki offered the GSX-S1000GT in two trims: the GT and the GT+. The sole distinction was that the GT+ included color-matched side cases for an additional $750 to the MSRP. Buyers have made their preference clear—they want a touring-ready bike straight from the showroom.  In response, Suzuki will offer only the GT+ model in 2025.

From the moment the GT+ rolls out of the showroom, it’s set up for touring.  Wind tunnel tested angular body work not only creates a distinct visual profile, but also effectively directs wind and weather away from the rider.  The large color and key matched side cases handle 25.7 liters of luggage, enough to accommodate a full face helmet in each.

The GT+ is designed to minimize rider fatigue.  Pegs and handlebars are positioned to reduce strain, ensuring an upright riding posture.  Suzuki added rubber vibration isolators on the pegs and in the handlebar mount to further enhance long-distance comfort.

Suzuki considered pillion rider comfort too.  The pillion seat is stepped to provide an unobstructed view over the rider’s shoulder with grab bars that don’t intrude on the seat area.

Long rides often come with varied conditions and the GT+ is ready for all of them.  It features three ride modes that adjust throttle characteristics to changing weather and road situations.  Choose Mode A (active) for a highly responsive sport throttle or Mode B (basic) for everyday all-around riding.  Select Mode C (comfort) for a softer throttle response when riding on wet or slippery surfaces or for a relaxing ride at the end of a long day.  Ride modes are enhanced by a traction control system that monitors wheel speed, engine RPM, and throttle and gear positions preventing unexpected rear wheel spin.  Riders can adjust traction control sensitivity or turn the system off all together. Both ride mode and traction control settings are selectable on the fly.

Sportbike Performance A Twist Away

The GSX-S1000GT+ isn’t defined solely by its touring capabilities; its sportbike DNA is unmistakable. Performance and handling are front and center, delivering thrills that don’t disappoint. At the heart of this machine is a GSX-R-derived 999cc inline-four engine. While Suzuki doesn’t publish official horsepower and torque figures, insiders estimate the engine produces around 150 HP at the crank, with CycleWorld dynamometer testing revealing 135 horsepower at the rear wheel. That’s impressive power for a motorcycle weighing just 498 pounds.

The GT+ gearbox is a race-proven close-ration six-speed unit matched with a bi-directional quick shifter that precisely de-throttles when upshifting and blips the throttle on the way down.  Clutch levers have a light touch thanks to the Suzuki clutch assist system which increases clutch plate pressure during acceleration and then allows the clutch to act like a slipper clutch when engine braking.  Drawing on its sportbike heritage, the GT+ employs a 525 drive chain equipped with O-rings to preserve lubrication and extend maintenance intervals.

With so much power on tap, the GT necessarily comes with serious brakes.  Upfront, Suzuki installed twin floating 310mm discs between Brembo radial mount monobloc calipers.  A 240mm single disc Nissin set-up handles the rear.  And of course, the Suzuki ABS system helps ensure both front and rear work within the limits of available traction.

Suspension geometry on the GSX-S1000GT+ promises agile handling with minimal impact on highway comfort and stability.  The twin-spar aluminum frame provides rigidity with less weight while the aluminum-alloy swingarm, taken from the GSX-R1000, gives the rear wheel solid bracing and superbike looks.  The 43mm inverted KYB fork has manually adjustable compression and rebound damping, plus spring preload adjustment with a reasonable 120 mm (4.7 inches) of front wheel travel.  The rear suspension employs a single shock absorber featuring a seven-way manually adjustable spring preload with rebound-damping force adjustment.  The result is a sport touring bike with comparatively aggressive wheelbase and rake and trail specifications.

Rider Electronics

Electronics continue to elevate the riding experience, and the GSX-S1000GT+ is a prime example of this trend.  At the heart of its rider-focused technology is a large 6.5-inch full-color TFT instrument panel, offering well-organized access to motorcycle settings and connected device features.

The TFT panel offers a clean and easy-to-navigate interface. On the left, it displays a simulated analog tachometer, while the middle area features a digital speedometer and fuel gauge. The right side is divided into three distinct areas: the upper portion shows a clock and connected device status icons, the middle section displays Suzuki Intelligent Ride System information such as traction control, and the lower portion features user-selectable gauges like coolant temperature or the odometer. Two additional screens allow access to general motorcycle settings and other options.

Connectivity is further enhanced through Suzuki’s MySPIN application, which integrates smartphones with the TFT panel. This feature allows riders to access their contact list, make and receive calls, view maps, listen to music, and manage their calendar— all while minimizing distractions, a critical feature for long touring rides.

Suggestions for Further Evolution

The GSX-S1000GT+ enters its fourth year as a standout in the sport touring segment.  It combines the soul of a sport bike with the manners and comfort of a tourer.  But it’s not a perfect bike – at least not yet.  Suzuki can make this bike an even better sport tourer with three important updates.

First, increase fuel tank capacity to give the bike a reliable range of at least 225 miles under a blend of moderate and aggressive riding.  Fuel stops are seldom a touring highlight, and being forced to conserve fuel just as the roads get exciting is a real letdown.  More tank please.

Second, make heated grips standard equipment for year-round comfort.  Every touring rider will use them sooner or later or wish they could.  Don’t leave riders with cold hands.

Third, perhaps most importantly, Suzuki should enhance the MySPIN app to improve connectivity and usability.  User feedback in Google Play and the Apple App Store is pretty clear on this.  Connectivity with the TFT panel should not require the phone to be on and unlocked. Music features should integrate seamlessly with streaming services like Spotify, and the app should support Google Maps for navigation.

Without these upgrades, the GT+ risks falling behind in the increasingly competitive connected motorcycle market.

A Solid Choice for Sport Tours

The 2025 Suzuki GSX-S1000GT+ sets a high bar for sport touring, blending thrilling sportbike performance with the comforts of long-distance travel. As Suzuki refines its formula, the GSX-S1000GT+ continues to embody the best of both worlds, appealing to riders who crave adventure and demand excellence on every ride.

While no motorcycle is entirely without room for improvement, the GT+ comes remarkably close to perfection in its class. Its balance of performance, comfort, and touring readiness ensures it remains a standout choice for riders seeking their next unforgettable journey. For those eager to explore remote motorcycle roads with a machine that’s as comfortable as it is thrilling, the 2025 GSX-S1000GT+ is ready and waiting to take on the challenge.
