Can the Maximus Tire Fill Kit Handle a Roadside Flat?
A flat tire is one of the more consequential roadside problems a sport touring rider can encounter. Once a puncture is plugged, the next challenge is restoring enough tire pressure to get the motorcycle safely back on the road.
Portable electric inflators are one solution. Compact CO₂ kits using typical 16-gram cartridges are another. The Maximus Tire Fill Kit offers a maximal approach. Using much larger 74-gram CO₂ cartridges, it promises enough gas to fill a full-size motorcycle tire without repeated cartridge changes.
We wanted to find out for ourselves if the Maximus Tire Fill Kit is a practical inflation option to take along on sport touring adventures.
Who is Leland Gas Technologies
Leland Gas Technologies, the company behind Maximus, is not widely recognized as a motorcycle accessory maker. Its broader business centers on gas cartridges and gas-delivery systems, and even Maximus product marketing itself aims at the four-wheeled powersports segment. We view the Maximus product as a signal that Leland is expanding their gas-delivery expertise into the motorcycle world.

The Maximus Tire Fill Kit includes a push-button release valve, an 18-inch filler hose, and three 74-gram CO₂ cartridges. All manufactured in what the company describes as ISO 9001 quality standard facilities.
Testing With Typical Sport Touring Tire Sizes
Testing was performed using common sport touring motorcycle tire sizes mounted on a Yamaha FJR1300. The rear tire was a 180/55-17 and the front a 120/70-17.
We started with a cold fully deflated rear tire.
A single 74-gram Maximus cartridge brought the tire to approximately 24 psi in 25 seconds. After one minute, the cartridge was empty and the tire had reached 34 psi.
After replacing the spent cartridge, it took only another eight seconds to bring the tire to the Yamaha-recommended cold tire pressure of 42 psi.
We ran the same test on the front tire. A single 74-gram cartridge was sufficient to bring the fully deflated 120/70-17 tire to the recommended 32 psi.
These results confirmed that the Maximus can restore safe riding pressure quickly in common sport touring tire sizes.
Tire pressures were checked with a Slime Elite Digital Tire Gauge. Neither tire showed measurable pressure loss after 30 minutes, and a follow-up check after 24 hours showed no change.
Fast and Easy Inflation
The Maximus is straightforward to operate.
The cartridge threads easily into the valve assembly. At the tire, the hose uses a JACO air chuck with a compression collar to securely attach to the valve stem. In testing, the connection was exceptionally reliable and easy to attach and remove.
We also found the 18-inch hose made valve access easy, even when maneuvering between the front brake rotors.

Once connected, pressing the release button rapidly feeds CO₂ into the tire. The valve control offers only a narrow operating range. In practice it behaves like an open/close valve.
The Maximus has no built-in tire pressure gauge, so a rider will need to pack a separate gauge to determine when the desired pressure has been reached.
Rapid CO₂ discharge also produces substantial cooling. During our testing, the cartridge, hose, and fittings quickly developed frost. Handling the valve was manageable, but Leland cautions against allowing bare skin to contact the CO₂ cylinders while in use.
One Large Cartridge Instead of Several Small Ones
The Maximus approach differs from most conventional motorcycle CO₂ kits primarily in cartridge size.
A typical repair kit comes with 16-gram cartridges, each providing about 8 to 9 psi, while the Maximus kit uses 74-gram cartridges. A single Maximus cartridge contains more than four times as much gas and an estimated 37 to 41 psi.
We weighed both cartridge sizes. A full Maximus cartridge checks in at 302 grams. By comparison, a standard 16-gram cartridge came in at 59 grams. That difference means riders need to pack five 16-gram cartridges, weighing a total of 295 grams, to roughly match the amount of CO₂ in a single 74-gram Maximus cartridge.

The practical advantage for Maximus is convenience. Instead of swapping cartridges to fill a single tire, our testing demonstrated a single Maximus cartridge can fill the front tire and slightly more than one handles the rear.
Partially Used Cartridges Can Be Saved
Any gas remaining in a cartridge can be saved for later top-ups, but the valve assembly must remain attached to the cartridge.
To help prevent accidentally releasing unused gas, the valve button is designed to rotate 180 degrees, so it rests securely in the closed position against the filler hose. We did not do a leak-down test to determine how long a partially used cartridge will last.
A Sturdy Carrying Case
The Maximus kit includes a heavy ballistic-nylon zippered case measuring approximately 6 by 8 by 2 inches. With three full cartridges and the filler valve and hose packed inside, our test kit weighed about 1,200 grams, or 2.65 pounds.

Three internal elastic loops secure the cartridges. Additional Velcro and zippered pockets provide space for repair tools and supplies, while outside MOLLE panels on both sides of the case offer even more packing options.
Build Quality Inspires Confidence
The aluminum and stainless steel valve assembly was one of the stronger aspects of the product.

It has a solid, precision machined feel, threads securely onto the cartridge, and attaches confidently to the motorcycle’s valve stem. The JACO air chuck, hose, and fittings likewise have a high-quality feel during use.
Leland makes the valve assembly in the United States. The CO₂ cartridges are imported from Japan.
Cost and Replacement Cartridges
Leland lists the Maximus Tire Fill Kit at a retail price of $140, with a current “Your Price” offer of $99.99.
Replacement 74-gram cartridges are sold in two-packs for $28.70, putting the cost at about $14.35 per cartridge.
That price is worth noting. In our tests, we used one full cartridge plus a little more gas from a second cartridge to fill a completely flat 180/55-17 rear tire. That works out to about $16 for the CO₂ alone.
In a roadside emergency, that $16 will seem like a fair price to get back on the road quickly and easily.
Fully discharged cartridges can be recycled with household metal recycling where local rules allow.
Does Maximus Make Sense for Sport Touring?
Our testing suggests that it does. We demonstrated that the Maximus Tire Fill Kit can successfully restore rideable tire pressure to two common sport touring tire sizes.
The system is simple to use. The filler hose length allows easy wheel access, the JACO air chuck provides a secure valve-stem connection, and the release valve operates smoothly.
There are tradeoffs, however. Replacement Maximus cartridges are modestly expensive, using the system requires a separate tire gauge, and there is no way to know exactly how much gas remains in a partially used cartridge.
Maximus is not a complete roadside tire repair kit. It provides the inflation equipment and CO₂ cartridges, but does not include tire plugs, insertion tools, reamers, or other puncture-repair tools. A sport touring rider still needs to add a tire repair kit and tire gauge.
Leland may not be a name that comes to mind for motorcycle accessories, but we found the Maximus Tire Fill Kit worked well in our testing. The product is well-made and a storage space friendly option to take along on a sport touring ride.
