BMW Motorrad Announces 2027 Model Updates
BMW Motorrad has announced its model updates for 2027, with new colors, equipment changes, and revised option packages across several motorcycles. For sport touring riders, the most relevant news centers on the K 1600 GT, K 1600 GTL, R 1300 RS, and, for riders drawn to BMW’s high-performance crossover platform, the M 1000 XR. BMW says the updated configurations can be ordered from BMW Motorrad dealers beginning in August 2026.

The K 1600 GT receives a new Style Edition II color scheme in Imperial Blue metallic. BMW also notes that Option 719 Blue Ridge Mountain metallic is no longer available for the GT. The Style Edition II treatment includes a “K 1600 Edition” badge, a black and yellow seat bench, and yellow wheel tape. BMW also lists Design Option Wheels with wheel tape as optional equipment for Style Edition II.

The K 1600 GTL follows the same broad color direction, with Style Edition II now offered in Imperial Blue metallic. For 2027, BMW is dropping Option 719 Blue Ridge Mountain metallic and Exclusive Gravity Blue metallic from the GTL lineup. The GTL’s Style Edition II also receives the “K 1600 Edition” badge, while BMW lists a new black Option 719 bench seat and Option 719 forged wheels among the updates.
For long-distance riders, the K 1600 updates appear more cosmetic and trim-focused than mechanical. Even so, color and wheel changes matter on BMW’s six-cylinder touring machines because these models sit near the top of the company’s road-focused touring range, where finish, seating, and equipment presentation are part of the ownership appeal.
The R 1300 RS receives a practical touring-related update. BMW says left and right case holders are now also available as a factory option for Style Performance. That should make the RS easier to configure from the factory for riders who want the sharper, more sporting boxer platform while retaining useful luggage capability for multi-day trips.
The M 1000 XR also receives notable changes, though they are aimed more at high-performance and track-oriented riders than traditional touring use. BMW is introducing a new M Track Package that includes M Laptrigger, Carbon Package, M Billet Package, and M Carbon Wheels. A second M Track Package II includes M Laptrigger, Carbon Package, and M Billet Package. BMW says the previous Competition Package is no longer available.

BMW’s broader 2027 updates also touch the F 900 XR, which gains a revised Comfort Package with M Endurance Chain content, and the R 1300 R, which receives new luggage-related factory equipment and a Touring Package that includes left and right case holders, Central Lock, and a center stand. Those changes may interest riders cross-shopping BMW’s upright road-focused models, though the K 1600 GT/GTL and R 1300 RS remain the clearest sport touring highlights in this announcement.
For riders planning ahead, the takeaway is straightforward: BMW’s 2027 sport touring-relevant updates are primarily packaging, color, and equipment changes rather than major platform revisions. The K 1600 GT and GTL gain new Style Edition II presentation, the R 1300 RS becomes easier to equip with factory case holders in Style Performance trim, and the M 1000 XR shifts from the outgoing Competition Package to new M Track Package configurations.
BMW says the 2027 model configurations can be ordered through BMW Motorrad partners beginning in August 2026. Riders can learn more about current models and availability at BMW Motorrad.
