Cardo Releases Mesh Boost
Cardo Systems has introduced Mesh Boost, a software update that expands the capabilities of its Dynamic Mesh Communication system with larger groups, easier group setup and a new public communication mode.
Released August 17, Mesh Boost increases the maximum size of a DMC group from 15 to 31 riders on supported second-generation devices. The free over-the-air update is available for the PACKTALK PRO, PACKTALK EDGE and PACKTALK NEO through the Cardo Connect app.
The update also introduces Public Mesh, which allows compatible Cardo users within DMC range to join a common conversation without first creating a private group, exchanging invitations or designating a group leader. Cardo sees the feature as particularly useful for organized rides, training courses, dealer events and other situations where riders may want to communicate without setting up a group in advance.
A second new feature, Remote Grouping, allows riders to create a DMC group before meeting for a ride. Groups can be established through the Cardo Connect app and invitations distributed by link or QR code. Once participants are within range, their devices can connect to the previously established group.
Cardo has also redesigned the intercom portion of the Cardo Connect app, adding new group-management controls, saved group lists and simplified procedures for creating, joining and switching between conversations.
Importantly for riders who already own older PACKTALK equipment, Cardo has retained compatibility with several previous-generation DMC models. Although Mesh Boost itself is installed on supported second-generation devices, Cardo says Mesh Boost groups can include legacy PACKTALK Bold, PACKTALK Slim and PACKTALK Black units. Some of the new Mesh Boost capabilities are not available when older devices are included, but riders do not necessarily need to replace existing compatible PACKTALK units simply to participate in a mixed DMC group.
Mesh Boost also adds DMC voice commands for joining and leaving an intercom conversation. Cardo notes that installing the firmware update will delete existing DMC groups, requiring users to recreate those groups after updating.
Owners of compatible devices will need the latest version of the Cardo Connect app and the latest device firmware to use Mesh Boost.
